RELATED: Light rail homicide suspect caught on cameras; police say an arrest could come soon According to court documents, on Oct. 3, officers responded to a shooting on the Metro Light Rail Green Line between the Stadium Village and Prospect Park stations in Minneapolis. At the Westgate Station, police found a man’s body in a light rail train car, where he died from a gunshot wound to the neck, the criminal complaint notes. He was later identified by Minneapolis police as Joseph Denny Nezperce. Surveillance footage showed Edwards get on the light rail at the U.S. Bank Stadium station at 8:48 p.m. and sit in the back seat of the train car. Court records state that Nezperce then got on at the East Bank station at about 8:57 p.m. and sat in the back train car as well, opposite Edwards. The video reportedly showed the two men talking to each other, and then Edwards shot Nezperce three times. Court documents say that Edwards then got off at the Prospect Park station at about 9:02 p.m. Investigators learned that before the shooting, Edwards had “swiped” a To-Go card to ride a Metro Transit bus. Surveillance video also showed Edwards spitting onto the platform prior to getting on the train, which was collected as evidence by Minneapolis police and later tested for DNA. Court records state that on July 27, White Bear Lake police stopped Edwards, who was driving a car registered to his mom and associated with an address in Maplewood. Investigators learned that Edwards may live with his mom, and on Oct. 20, recovered evidence from the home that matched the DNA of the spit on the platform. On Friday, Minneapolis police announced that they arrested Edwards, and he is currently at the Hennepin County Jail. RELATED: Suspect arrested in fatal Minneapolis Green Line train shooting
